In the work Steel Beams with Monitors (2002), Bernd Reiter combines raw industrial architecture with mediated perception. The massive, untreated steel beam functions as a vertical support structure for a sequence of monitors that appear like embedded image windows.

The monitors break through the material weight of the beam and introduce a second layer: moving images as temporal, fragile counterpoints to the physical permanence of steel.
